Day 001 – 364 days to go. Yikes, what have I started?
Here I go. I am a little overwhelmed with the commitment I just made about trying or making something new EACH DAY.
Why pick today? Well, I thought about starting on Jan. 1 like a New Year resolution but then it seems like another excuse for me to procrastinate. So I kicked my own behind and got this thing going. No turning back now.
For today, I could simply say I started this blog and that’s the new thing I did but it would seems like I am copping out of this commitment already.
So I started small.
Since I thought about changing my self-image by loosing weight, I started having more salads these days. I tried making a new salad dressing to add some excitement to my salads.
I surfed the Internet and found this Greek dressing recipe on “allrecipes.com”. It seems to have lots of good reviews. The ingredients seem easy to find in the grocery store and some I already have in the kitchen. (olive oil, garlic powder, oregano, basil, pepper, salt, onion powder, mustard, and red wine vinegar) This website has a great feature that allows people to input the servings, and the recipe will adjust. I adjusted it to a smaller serving since it’s an experiment.
I couldn’t find a glass bottle in the house so I used a glass jar that was lying around. Followed the recipe and felt like I was working on some sort of science project. Putting a teaspoon this and a teaspoon that in the jar and mixed. End product, as you can see from the picture, didn’t look too appetizing but….it tasted quite good. Just the right amount of tanginess and the herbs are not overpowering. On top of that it seems healthy (at least I knew exactly what went into it – no preservatives). I used the dressing for a spinach salad with grilled chicken and sautéed mushrooms. My husband seem to enjoyed it as well so I took it as a “success”.
Let see what I can come up with for tomorrow.
