Day 002 – Grilling Steak?? or??

Not a fan of Mondays. Waking up from a really gruesome dream didn’t help make the day any better.  Back to the daily routine and another uneventful day in the office.

What could I try today?  Thought about grilling the New York Steak I just bought this weekend.  That would be something new for sure because this was always my husband’s job.  Looked for a Gordon Ramsay recipe but couldn’t find one for New York Steak.  Didn’t want to ruin some good steak so I scratched that idea and leave that for my husband to do instead.

What else could I try? We had mushrooms… tons of mushrooms since they are really cheap lately, we loaded up on them.  I could try a new side dish or appetizer.  Found a website called mushrooms.ca that has lots of recipes for mushrooms, obviously.  I picked their recipe for mushroom pate since  I love pate and I love mushrooms, perfect.  On top of that I already had all the ingredients at home.

I started chopping up the mushrooms (white button, mini bella, and shitake).

Mushrooms

My husband peeked over while he was grilling the steak and told me he didn’t like pate.  Great… what do I do now?  So I sliced up some of extra mushrooms for him to grill with the steak.  And that was our dinner.

My husband's creation

While I was chopping away at the mushrooms I remembered that we have a “magic bullet” food processor.  I gave it a shot and it gave me mushroom puree instead.  Didn’t look too good so I went back to chopping manually.  I was glad I did.  The chucks of mushrooms actually gave the pate some texture.  Following the recipe I cooked everything in a pot and it smelled lovely.  Smelled like a nice creamy mushroom soup.  Well, as for the looks… another one that didn’t look too appetizing.

Mushroom Pate in Pot Mushroom Pate on Baugette

As suggested by the recipe, I put the pate on some fresh baguette that I picked up after work.  Mmmmm.  It tasted like it smelled, like a really creamy thick mushroom soup.  I could actually imagine using sliced mushrooms instead in this recipe as a topping for a mushroom burger.

Although my husband didn’t try it, I still think it’s a “success”.
