Day 016 – bada bada bada butter chicken
I love butter chicken. More specifically the one from the indian place across from my office. One time I was out of town and tried this “authentic” restaurant, I was super disappointed. I started to wonder if that place across from my office is the only place that I could get a decent butter chicken dish.
I wasn’t ready to attempt making it from scratch yet so i looked in the supermarket and found Patak’s Butter Chicken sauce.
It looked simple enough. Cut the chicken into cubes, cooked the chicken first then added the sauce. Let everything simmered and served with rice.
The colour looked about rightbut smelled kind of funny. Sort of a sweet scent with a hint of peanut. It’s relatively creamy but definitely could be creamier and thicker. It’s a tad too sour and had a funny texture. The texture almost felt like dry coconut shreds but I read the ingredient, there was no coconut. May be it was dried onion. It didn’t cut it. I still want the one from across my office. It was easy to make but didn’t taste right (what do I know about the right taste, I am not even Indian… what I meant was that it didn’t taste like what I expected) The good thing about this recipe/product was that somehow the chicken turned out really soft and moist.
