Day 025 – Last day at work and went a little seafood nuts…

Our office is closed from 24th Dec to Jan 3rd.  In a way it’s quite nice but the downside is that we have to use our 2.5 vacation days.  Kind of a bummer when you only gets 10 vacation days to begin with.

I purposely drove down to work so I could pick up stuff on my way back for the Family Christmas Dinners (yes plural… my family and my in-laws).  I wanted to prepare seafood dinner for my family and a slightly more traditional one for my in-laws.

The problem with seafood dinner was that all the stores would be closed on the 24th and 25th which made it hard to get fresh seafood for the 25th dinner.  I figured I would give it a shot and went this seafood store named “Diana’s“.  They have large selection of seafood and all FRESH!!!  I knew my family were big fan of oyster eventhough I was not, I picked up a box (5 dozens) oyster.  I also picked up some mussels which came in an interesting package supposedly keeping them alive and fresh.  Interesting.  Will see how well it works when I open them on the 25th.  Some other stuffs wasn’t on my shopping list was fresh clams, some swirl thing that has spinach and cheese inside, escagot, fish fillets…. Yum.

After Diana’s, I dropped by my brother-in-law’s favorite Greek bakery “Elite” (located at Kennedy/HWY401 area).  Picked up some Baklava.  Original plan was to drop by the supermarket as well so that I could relax on tomorrow but I was toasted after fighting through traffic to Diana’s and Elite.  I saw this Jamaican food place and though I might as well picked up dinner.  My husband LOVES the roti from “Island Foods” and had been trying to find another place that has the same caliber.  I gave this Jamaican food place a try.  I walked in and was surprised to find the owner was CHINESE??? I picked up one boneless chicken roti.   It’s not bad.  The skin was a bit dry and there wasn’t enough sauce inside the roti.  The flavor of the curry was almost like the Island’s food one.  We have learned from our past that some roti place’s curry were way different.   Sorry that there wasn’t any picture of the roti because my husband was too hungry and ate it as soon as I got it in.   I think this might be one we could go back to.
