Day 042 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Today was my hubby’s birthday.  My in-laws were coming over for lunch and my hubby asked for his favorite boneless chicken roti (had to be from Island Foods).    It was located on Don Mills between York Mills and Lawrence.
Since my sister in law and my brother in law had a straight diet/food preference, I figured since I was in the area, I should check out this high-end groceries door that my brother told me about.  Hoping to pick up something since I knew they will not eat the roti.  The high end groceries store was called McEwan.  It had the same owner as the North 44 restaurant.    It’s located at Don Mills and Lawrence.

The entire area was re-developed not too long ago.  There was a multi leveled parking garage but if you didn’t want to park and then walk to McEwan, there was valet parking available.
The store was nicely designed and spacious.  They had a huge long counter for meat that included some of the restaurant items that you could just heat and eat.  There were soup, sauce, salad, vegetables, fruits, similar to a normal groceries store.  The difference was the prices on things and the selections.  I had seen the lantern shape berries and tomatoes but never seen one combined – tomatillos.  And I never saw a purple colour cauliflower either.  Interesting.  I ended up picking up the purple cauliflower.
I didn’t spend too much time looking into everything since I had to rush back with the roti in time for lunch.     Its worth going back to find the odd strange things to try or prepare for special occasions but definitely not affordable to go for regular groceries
