Day 106 – Noce, Italian for Nut

It’s our friend’s 30th birthday and his wife organized a dinner party at Noce Restaurant located at Queen/Bathurst area.  Never been there before but have been in the area for one of my favorite paper stores.  Not sure why but I have a thing for paper.

The restuarant was easy to find and green P parking is close by.  We got in through the side door on Walnut Ave.  Some of our friednds were there already.  Turned out our party have this “middle” room all to ourselves that was right by the door.  It’s an okay size space but sort of felt like sitting in the lobby after awhile since it seems like people for the other roms uses the same door anyways.  Lots of traffic going in and out of this space.
The wait staffs were pleasant but it was kind of strange that the one staff taking our order just kept walking away after taking each order.  Strange.  Anyhow, I ordered the “Le Quaglie” which is oven roasted deboned quails, on fregols sarda with sauteed shitake mushrooms and glazed onion.  And my hubby ordered the steak special.

The quails came and looked like sausages. It’s very tender and kind of sweet but it had this funny crunchy texture that I simply could not pinpoint what it was.  Took me a while and I remember seeing something about figs on the menu so I guess that’s what that crunchiness was from.  Not too thrill about the crunchy fig  though as the quail was really tender and the fregols sardis and mushrooms were soft.  My hubby seemed to have liked the fregols sarda with sauteed shitake mushroom.  He ended up finishing it for me after he enjoyed his steak.  The steak was done to perfection and his liking.  I guess at least one of us had a great meal.

For the price, it’s okay.  I wouldn’t say it’s exceptional and not sure if i would go back.  At least I can say I tried.
