Day 109 – Bring on the heat

I simply can’t wait.  I just want to get started with the Plumeria and Passion Flower seeds.  I went to Walmart after work to see what they have in terms of gardening supply.  I ended up spending more than I was planning for.  Originally I was going for the growing medium puck and I ended up picking up….1 – Heated professional greenhouse, 1 – professional greenhouse and 2 – pack of the growing medium puck. I am notorious to talk myself out of buying anything.  It was close but I managed to make it home with these items.  (although I am still debating if i should refund them or at least the heated professional greenhouse)

Got home showed my hubby.  He was a bit concern about the heated greenhouse.  It came with a heated mat and it suppose to help warm up the soil and promote germination.  I read somewhere that eventhough ambient temperature is high, the soil temperature is always lower and only having heated mat or bottom heat source will help warm up the soil.  My hubby was concerned that it might catch fire or something with it plug in all the time.  I have done too much research on it so I think I will hold off from using it and may be I will have to return it.

In the meantime I was trying to figure out a way to provide a moist warm environment for soaking both the plumeria and the passion flower seeds.   Went down the basement and looked around and I found the cooler.  Since it keep cold in for summer time, why can’t it keep warm stuff in ?? hmmm… so I grab a bunch of water bottles from the recycling bin and filled them up with warm water.  Throw them in the cooler and see what happen.  after 10 mins or so it seem to have reach 30C.  I will test it over night to see how warm it will be in the morning without changing water.   I needed it to stay warm for 24hrs period.

Hope this will work. Can’t wait to start planting.
