Day 114 – Plumeria Obsession
So excited to get some cutting from the Canada Bloom show yesterday. i am really hoping it will bloom faster than my seedlings. The one key instruction the vendor keep telling me was to get “fast draining soil”. I really wanted it to succeed so I went on the internet to do some more research.Found one website suggesting to use 50/50 cactus mix and perlite. I ventured out to Sheridan figured they would be the expert and have everything. I wasn’t wrong i found cactus mix and perlite without any problem. While I took a shroll down the store, I noticed they have heating pads. Same size, same made as the one I got from Walmart with the greenhouse kit but twice the cost. It was $60 for just the pad alone. I guess I did pretty with at Walmart.
Got home with the and ready to go. Didn’t have any stone or gravel so I used some left over window screen to put on the bottom of the pot. I got a separate container where I mixed the cactus mix and perlite together before I put in the pot. I followed the instruction from the vendor and put about 2″ of mixat the bottom, then I watered it slightly and compacted it. Then I put the flat end of the cutting down and put more mix around it and compacted it firmly. Finally add some water untill it started draining out.
So now I wait…… A bit anxious though but nothing I can do but wait. The instruction also mentioned that it doens’t require much watering which is good because I am always bad with watering my plants. And if too much water, there will be fruitflies which annoys my hubby which might caused him to ban me from any planting. That wouldn’t be good.
In case you are wondering how does the cutting look like. I would describe it as a giant asparagus. Although my hubby would have other desription for it. The cutting was basically a branch off from a mature plant and for the ones that had been flowered before, it wll have couple nibs at the end instead of just a straight piece. I got one pink that were like that and will see if it does any better than the other pink that’s not.
