Day 118 – Failed :(

My hubby just took off to Vegas for his friend’s bachelor’s party.   It’s a bit scarry but I do trust him and I guess I trust the friends that he is going with.   Since he is off for a “vacation” in a way, I thought may be I will take some time off too.  Kind of crappy to commute by myself and knowing he is off on a “vacation”.

I also decided to surprised him.   Plan A is to renovate the main floor vanity bathroom and Plan B is to paint the hallway that leads to the stair area and upstairs.   It’s pretty big undertaking but I just want to “surprised” him or I should say, to avoid having him looking over my shoulder and I can make the space exactly the way I like it?   may be???

I know I am really weird.  Kind of enjoy fixing up the house as a time off activities.   I started thinking about it for a while and the first day, I was going to attempt getting some materials and tools.   The biggest task for the bathroom is removing the existing lovely flooring.  We currently have this nasty brown pattern ceramic tile and it’s on top some beige/yellow linoleum tile.   It’s absolutely horrendous.   I went to all the home improvement stores, Home Depot, Rona, and Lowes to see what’s available and decided to pick up some tools for tile removal first.   If I can’t take off the tile, there is no point of attempting anything else for the bathroom, and might as well go to Plan B.

I picked up 2 different kinds of tools for grout removal.   One is a triangle looking thing at the end of a stick and the other sort of look like a beefed up box cutter or something.   Didn’t find anybody to ask about them and since it’s not too expensive, I bought both.

Got home and try to figure these tools out.   From what I read/watched on the internet (you tube has some great how-to videos).   I have to remove the grout first.   Not sure why, or what my rationel is, I opened up the one with the triangle thing first.   I tried on a section of the grout and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.   I gave up on that after couple try then opened up the other one (beefed up box cutter looking one).  It has 2 blades on it and it’s has some teeth.   It works much better.  Fit perfection in where the grout is and cut nicely.  Although I don’t know how well it does for some of the tighter joint that I have seen else well but for this job, it works just perfectly.   I cut 4 sides of the one tile up and then I tried to get this one tile up.  I simply couldn’t.   Am I missing something.  I tried and I tried.  It’s stuck.

I think I will attempt to go to Home Depot to see if there is any power tools I can rent to do the job.   Or I might have to go to Plan B.
